Unknowns

9-June-2000

Kayla sat at the kitchen table. Again she was leafing through a stack of magazines with interviews with the boys. Keryn was looking for a spatula. It seems that nobody could ever find a spatula in the house.

“Oh, wait..listen to this Keryn… “Well I have been phoning the girl a lot lately that I met when we shot the video.” What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“You know Kayla, you really should stop reading that junk. It’s all lies. Besides you talked to him yesterday and you said yourself that everything was fine. He even gave you the AOK to letting Charlie stay here for a week.”

“I know but still, it’s weird you know.”

“I know.”

Kayla tossed the mag in the vague direction of the bin and began to bite her nails. Without even turning around Keryn told her to stop.

“Are you my Mother now huh?” giggled Kayla

“Nope, just simply a concerned friend who is making sure her best friend looks picture perfect for LA next week.”

Kayla smiled.

“I know, Oh I’m so excited Keryn. Me in LA with a job!! I only wish you were coming.”

“Stop asking me!! You know I have my own life.”

“yeah but still….”

“Charlie will be in LA with you..”

“But Charlie’s Charlie. He doesn’t get like…I don’t know, girl stuff.”

“Girl stuff? Do we talk girl stuff?”

Kayla gestured to the teen magazines that littered the floor.

“Okay I guess we do… a little.”

The girls relaxed into silence. They both sorta knew that this could be then end of the hanging as the unknown girls of Hanson’s life. It seemed odd that Kayla was about to jet off to LA for her call back for “Crossways”. It was all going really fast. And they were both a little scared. Keryn was still missing Taylor and they were coming home next weekend, but thanks to Kayla’s timing she was just going to miss seeing them as she and Charlie flew out the day before. So all in all Keryn and Kayla had a total of 4 days together before Charlie arrived, and then.who knows”

Taylor had ants in his pants. But these weren’t normal ants. These were ants telling him to go home to Tulsa. It had been ages since he had seen Keryn and it was like they needed to get back home to have the girls tell them that their hairs sucks, that they burp too loud, that the need to calm down etc. Being on tour and getting flattered ALLLLLL the time was starting to get annoying. He had asked Keryn to go to Europe with them but she had refused. Luckily Kathryn, the dependable cousin, had tagged along. But it wasn’t the same. Keryn, although not really family, still knew him better. Zac seemed to be fine without Margo, which was quite a stress. But he is only fourteen, and at fourteen Taylor didn’t care about girls, at all. And then Ike, who, in Taylor’s opinion, was doing everything possible to get over Kayla besides hire a stripper. All his big talk of girls he meets and finds attractive, he is so faking it. Taylor and Zac could see it in his eyes, this faked appreciation. It was getting to be really sad. And then giving Kayla permission to have Ike stay at the house…what was with that. It was just odd. But Ike just wouldn’t listen. Taylor believed that it was a pity that Ike and Kayla werent going to meet up in Tulsa cos they both need to make up or bitch each other out. Not this half-half business, that means nothing.

Charlie wiped his brow and let his face fall from the almost permanent grin that was expected of him. He was tired. This heat was killing him and standing here in front of a camera when the temperature was going of the scale and expected to smile was such a task. He flopped down and chair and was immediately swamped by the make up girls. They were so annoying. “Oh Charlie..look what you did….” Such bimbos. Kayla and Keryn seemed almost Einstein’s in comparison. But anyway’s, it did mean he didn’t have to do everything, and that was quite a kick. He scanned the scene, people were watching the cut reply again and it was apparently good, he thanked the heavens. This meant that he could pack up and head home. Life of the commercial star isn’t as glamorous as it seemed. As Charlie sat he began his mental checklist of things he had to do before he left for Tulsa. This list was surprisingly long. And if the truth be told, Charlie was a little nervous about being on Ike’s turf. Not that it really mattered, and it wasn’t that he hadnt given permission, it was just hard. Charlie knew for a fact that Kayla was really cut up about it all, and was just holding it all in. She obviously hadnt said anything to Keryn, so Charlie was betting that after about an hour back in the house in LA he would get the full story. She had to tell someone.
